Underground optical fiber cables (COS)
The energy management is based on an infrastructure of underground optical fiber cables (COS) connecting the transformer substation to the junction boxes mounted on electricity pylons.
Outside the transformer substation (that is, between its enclosure and the junction box of the pylon) in rural areas, the cables are installed in the ground at a depth of 1.5 meters, under protective netting. They have a synthetic fiber reinforcement ensuring their longevity. In the city, the cables are run through underground PVC sheaths.
Inside the transformer substation enclosure:the cables are installed in "gutters".They are placed in reinforced concrete conduits filled with sand and protected by netting. To avoid the cables being damaged by rodents, ACOME has developed specific cables with a steel reinforcement to protect the cable core.
ACOME, at the origin of the design of these cables, defined its products jointly with RTE (the French Electricity Transmission Grid) EDF's transmission subsidiary.
These COS cables are particularly reliable, capable of transmitting huge amounts of information, using fast developing and innovative technology, and will gradually replace copper telecom cables.
